Library Introduction

 

Mymensingh was established on 10 January 1989 in a four-room two-storey building on 19.50 acres of land at 18 GKMC Saha Road, a small market in the traditional town of Mymensingh. Until 31st August 1972, the reader service was running under the name "Bangladesh Parishad". The Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh renamed the library as Mymensingh District Government Public Library on 1 September 1972. The overall activities of the library were being conducted in the previous building till 02.04.2011. Laying the foundation stone of a one-storey building on a 4-storey building on 0.33 acres of land adjacent to the historic Circuit House ground in Mymensingh on 30.08.2009. Was running till 01.2011. From 21st January 2019, all the activities of the Divisional Government Public Library, Mymensingh are being conducted.

Vision Mission

To contribute to the development and enrichment of knowledge and wisdom in the formation of knowledge-minded enlightened society by providing time-saving teaching and information services with science and modern information technology based facilities to the entire population of Mymensingh divisional city and Mymensingh district irrespective of race, religion and caste.

Activities

The following activities are organized and conducted including the provision of books, periodicals, periodicals, references and information services: -

01. Books received from the Department of Public Libraries were included every year.

02. Organizing competitions on the occasion of different national days, drawing, recitation, book reading, handwriting etc. and the winners.

      Prizes are awarded.

03. Book exhibitions are organized to celebrate different days.

04. Computer programming for secondary level students under the British Council's Library's Unlimited project

     Services are provided.

05. Regular exchanges are made with the service recipients every month.

07. National Library Day is celebrated on 5th February every year.

Other activities 

In order to increase the reading habits of the people of all walks of life and to attract them to the library , expansion activities are organized in the library such as essay competition, recitation competition, beautiful handwriting competition, recitation, book reading, drawing competition etc. on the occasion of different national days . On special days book exhibitions and discussion meetings are organized and workshops and seminars are organized besides enrollment of private public libraries established at different levels is also provided .                                             

Library usage rules

1. The library is open from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm from Saturday to Wednesday (excluding public holidays).

2. You can't enter the classroom with a bag, you have to deposit personal belongings at the counter at your own risk.

3. You have to enter the classroom in an orderly manner.

4. You cannot enter the classroom with your own books, guides, notes and book pages.

5. There should be silence in the classroom, you can't talk on cell phone.

6. Cellphone should be kept silent.

6. You can't talk loudly in the library premises.

. Laptops cannot be used in the classroom.

9. No more than one chair can be occupied in the reading room.

10. Books are not lent without library members.

11. In case of members, maximum 2 books of equal value of security are lent.

12. Cellphones, wallets, purses, etc. should be kept at one's own risk in the reading room.

13. Shawls / sheets cannot be entered in the reading room.

14. The body of the suspicious reader will be searched.

15. The reader should leave the reading room informing the responsible staff of the reading room that he does not have any contents of the library.

16. Books should be placed on the table after reading.

16. Multiple books on BCS / Employment cannot be kept.

16. Self-reading books should give others a chance to read.

19. You can't sleep in the classroom.

20. No rubbish, torn paper or food scraps should be left in the reading room.

21. Bicycle / Motorcycle should be kept at one's own risk.

22. No damage can be done to the library textbooks.

23. Nothing can be written in books, magazines, scratches, pages can be folded.

24. If there is any demand, suggestion or complaint regarding the library service, the head of the library should be informed directly.
